Okazaki has a population large enough to support a wide range of sports, cultural activities, events and festivals. It is easy to enjoy a wide range of activities cheaply, and the local citizens are usually very open and invite foreign residents and students to join in community activities.

Whether you are planning a long term or short term stay, there is plenty to do.

Okazaki has a rich history. Temples such as Daijuji, Takisanji, shrines such as Iga Hachiman, the castle, or businesses such as Hatcho Miso etc offer the chance to see what Japan looked like before it was concreted over. The local population have a keen pride in the city's history and asking locals about the city is an easy way to get some good Japanese practice.

If you are interested in sports, there is a wide range of facilities ranging from tennis to football and martial arts. For fun with a bit of adventure try fishing for Ayu, boating on Lake Mikawa, kayaking or even paragliding. There are also many good cycling and jogging routes if you want to keep fit and a low cost City Gym.

Music and contemporary culture vultures can easily spend hours in Tower Records or the many smaller CD shops (including second hand of course) or see some live music at CAM - a local live house, or disappear into one of the many Manga or book stores.
