Language Travel Opportunities

By Declan Murphy,
Director - International Office

Okazaki is perfectly positioned in central Japan to make it easy to travel to most of Japan's major destinations. Kyoto, Nara, Ise, Mt Fuji are all within easy reach for day trips. As Okazaki is halfway between Tokyo and Osaka - a wide range of weekend trips are also possible. Okazaki and the Mikawa region also offer a wide range of travel opportunities.

If you enroll in a longer term program, then you would have ample opportunities to see and experience Japan. However if you only have a limited amount of time available (anything from 2 - 12 weeks), then the following 3 programs would probably offer you the most suitable options for combining language study with travel and hands-on experience of the culture.

Discovery Program (Study tour)
This is an intensive Japanese communication skills/conversation program that includes a 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 week study program length and an adventure tour (you can select a tour either 3, 5, 8, 10 or 12 days long) that will introduce you to a wide sampling of both traditional and modern Japanese culture. The tour will also allow you to explore areas of Japan that usually can't be reached by public transport. The program is best suited for language travellers, beginners in the language or first time visitors to Japan.

C.A.L.L. Seminar
If you are really short of time, this seminar provides a very flexible option. Unlike the SILAC and Discovery programs, you can START ANY DAY except on Sundays and Public Holidays and study from as little as 2 days up to 28 days. You can also customize the program length and intensity - study for 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours per day. There is full transferability between on-campus study and OCJS based distance learning.

Private Lessons
As with the C.A.L.L. Seminar, with private lessons you can START ANY DAY except on Sundays and Public Holidays. The schedule and curriculum is designed by faculty with you to provide a fully customized program.
