Note 1: Housing Option: Name of the Accommodation. Does not necessarily indicate an accommodation type - ie all rooms in Yamasa Villa 1 are apartments, but no rooms in Yamasa Villa 2 are apartments. Return to top

Note 2: Enrollment Status: This refers to the status of the occupants of each room (apartment or dorm room). Yamasa does not require all occupants to be students, it is possible for your friend, spouse, partner or dependent(s) to live in Yamasa accommodation. To be eligible for student housing, the sole occupant, or at least one member of two or more people sharing a room, needs to be enrolled in either a full-time group course, or if enrolled in Private, CALL, Refresher or any other on-demand program, be enrolled in a minimum of 15 classes per week, or be participating in experiential programs such as Japan Discovery or Internship. Return to top

Note 3: Quarterly Fee per person: This refers to the amount paid by each occupant for the period of the quarter. The accommodation is available from up to 3 days prior to the designated program start date, and up to 3 days after completion ceremony of that academic quarter.
Example: If the Spring Quarter begins April 8th, and concludes June 26th, then a student enrolling in the Spring quarter may enter the accommodation no earlier than April 5th, and stay in the accommodation until no later than June 29th.
If a student is continuing studies into the following quarter, then provided the accommodation fees for the following quarter have been paid, then the student may remain in the accommodation without needing to transfer to alternative accommodation.
Example: If a student begins the Spring Quarter on April 8th, which concludes June 26th, and continues to study during the Summer Quarter, then the student may enter the accommodation no earlier than April 5th, and stay in the accommodation until no later than 3 days after the conclusion of the Summer Quarter in September. Return to top

Note 4: Deposit (refundable): All occupants of student housing who are enrolling in an academic quarter based program, as well as any non-students residing with them, are required to pay a deposit, and all deposits are partially refundable. The refund consists of the amount remaining from the deposit after cleaning bills (usually 15,750 yen) and the payment of any utility bills (gas, water, electricity) that arrive after a student checks out of accommodation. Cleaning takes place within 1-7 days of a student checking out of the accommodation, however electricity and gas bills are monthly, and water bills are bi-monthly. Banks fees (usually 4500 yen at the Japan end if any international remittance is required) are deducted from the final refund. A student who leaves the room clean and with all furnishing present and in acceptable condition, and who uses power, gas and water at a normal level, would usually receive more than half of the deposit back, and would usually receive the refund no later than 6-8 weeks of checking out. A student who is remaining in Japan and has a Japanese bank account, would usually receive a quicker (ease of transaction) and larger refund (lower transfer fee, and in some cases no remaining utility bills). The listed deposit fees are per-person. Return to top

Note 5: Single Occupancy: A single room/apartment, for one enrolled student only. This does not mean that guests are not by definition unable to stay on a short term (4 nights or less) basis if registered in advance with the Housing Officer, and the required guest fees have been paid. Please note that in some accommodation options, guests will be unable to stay - please check with Admissions. Please note that in some accommodation options, pets are unable to be kept. Return to top

Note 6: 2 Students, arranged by Yamasa: For students who wish to reduce their accommodation fees, but are enrolling by themselves. In this case the Housing Office will allocate a room mate. As a general rule the room mate will be enrolled in the same or a similar course. The room mate will be of the same gender. With shared by 2 accommodation, individual concerns such as age, nationality, spoken language(s), vegetarian etc are as a general rule unable to be taken into consideration. Please note that guests will be unable to stay. Please note that pets unable to be kept. Return to top

Note 7: 2 Students, enter/leave together: This reduced rate exists for friends, partners, mixed or same sex couples etc who decide to enroll together, starting and finishing on the same day. In such cases the 2 students do not need to be in the same program (ie one could be in AIJP and another in Acceleration etc), but both need to be full-time enrolled students - ie both need to be enrolled in a minimum of 15 classes per week each. The same conditions apply in the case or 3 or 4 students. Please note that in some accommodation options, guests will be unable to stay - please check with Admissions. Please note that in some accommodation options, pets are unable to be kept. Return to top

Note 8: 1 Student, 1 non-student, enter/leave together: This rate exists for friends, partners, mixed or same sex couples etc, where only one person will be studying in a program, but both will arrive together, entering and checking out of the accommodation on the same day. The non-studying member(s) need(s) to either be Japanese, or have a suitable visa, and be responsible without assistance from Yamasa for that visa. Families with children are more than welcome. As a general rule young children may stay free of charge. Please contact Admissions for more information, or for a quotation if interested in staying in 4LDK townhouses such as Residence I or Residence M. Limited childcare, creche and kindergarten facilities are available. Please note that in some accommodation options, guests will be unable to stay - please check with Admissions. Please note that in some accommodation options, pets are unable to be kept. Return to top
