The Working Holiday Program

First of all, THE FACTS:

What the working holiday visa is, how it works, the rules and regs.

Where are you now?

Are you 1) thinking of heading to Japan on a working holiday? Are you 2) already in Japan on a working holiday visa? Are you 3) thinking you would like to extend your stay in Japan but are not sure how or where?

The non-profit Yamasa Institute is in a position to help you in all 3 of these cases just as we have helped many working holiday makers in the past. See what some of them have to say.

Consider the advantages you can receive if you are heading for Japan, are already in Japan, or are considering extending your stay in Japan:

If you are heading for Japan

  1. Your own apartment or room waiting for you (furnished and with no deposit or key money). The apartment or room will cost you much less than a Youth Hostel, yet you have privacy and comfort.
  2. You can have a guaranteed postal address before you leave. If you are planning to backpack through Asia or wherever first, or just want to send heavy or indispensable items (Ski or surfing gear, chocolate and bottles of port...) ahead of you, now you can.
  3. Brush up (or learn the essentials) your Japanese with a discount (10% discount on your first tuition payment). Try an internship?
  4. Central location makes a great base for inexpensively seeing central Japan.
  5. Free job referral service during and after your course.
  6. Accomodation information and assistance when you finish your course.

If you are already in Japan:

  1. Take a break from the work, try a bit of study, try a homestay.
  2. Take advantage of your stay in Japan. Pass a level of the Japanese Proficiency Test while you are here by making use of the discounted tuition offer (10% discount on your first tuition payment).
  3. See a different area of the country on the cheap.
  4. Guaranteed furnished accomodation with no deposit or key money for a stay up to 3 months. Perfect if you are between jobs.
  5. Free job referral service during and after your course.
  6. Accomodation information and assistance when you finish your course.

If you want to extend your stay:

  1. Easy transfer to a 1 year (renewable) student visa. No more 6 monthly extensions. No need to leave and come back. Or hope that they will give you another working holiday visa.
  2. No waiting period for part-time work
  3. Discounted tuition offer (10% discount on your first tuition payment).
  4. Guaranteed furnished accomodation.
  5. Free job referral service during and after your course (if you want to stay even longer)
