Issue 2 - Thursday, 4th May 2000
Time flies. We are in Golden Week in Japan, one of the two main periods of national holidays. This is the time when most Japanese take their holidays, often going to popular locations such as Hawaii or Australia for a few days. Most companies shut down at this time of year, and it is virtually impossible to do anything except relax and enjoy it!
We are well into spring, and the weather is starting to warm up making this one of the best times to visit Japan. The next few months will be mild and gradually warm up towards the summer heat of July and August. The rainy season will be in there first; June/July tends to see most of the year's rainfall. At this time, as farmers plant rice, even the center of many Japanese towns green (one of the many strange things about Japan is the rice fields in the middle of otherwise residential areas).
This second issue of the Yamasa newsletter will be looking at the Discovery E tour for the summer; some online Japanese resources (dictionaries, etc.) and how to make your computer read Japanese text.
