As one deadline approaches.....someone will postpone it. Fortunately not my payday (thanks boss) but the Student (shugakusei) visa application date. See below for details.

Then, with the visa issue in mind, I thought an explanation of "guarantors" might be useful. What they are, who needs them.

I would also like to present one of the most popular teachers to you....Ms. Saori Suzuki. Suzuki-sensei runs the SILAC program, which since she took on the job, has had nothing but praise and happy students who keep coming back to study more. So, if you want to meet her or any of the rest of the SILAC program staff....enroll!

Finally, a competition. If you are thinking of studying this summer, but want a little money to help you on the way, put your homepage skills to the test. Over 140,000 Yen in prizes.

1. APPLICATION DEADLINES

LONG-TERM COURSES:

 - Student (shugakusei) Visa Update

We are now processing applications for the Student (shugakusei) visa. If you are interested in studying from October 2000 for more than 3 months, please fill out an application form online at

or email Admissions for assistance with your applications.

 - Change in Immigration Office Policy

The immigration office have decided as of today that they will be accepting applications for the Student Visa until July 15th. This means that if you thought you wouldn't be able to make the deadline, you still have time. You need to complete the kits and return them to Yamasa by JULY 15TH - we will then take them to the immigration office for you the following week. IF WE DON'T HAVE THE KIT BY JULY 15TH WE WON'T BE ABLE TO PROCESS YOUR APPLICATION IN TIME. We still have a few vacancies left for the October intake - hurry if you want to reserve a place.

If you are working in Japan on a full-time work visa, you can change to a student (shugakusei) visa at any time by contacting your local immigration office. They will ask you for:

 - receipt showing payment of course fees;
 - letter of acceptance to a school (nyuugaku kyokasho); 
 - (probably) proof of savings or earnings sufficient to support your studies.

We can issue with the receipt and letter of acceptance as soon as you pay the tuition fees if you request this. Please contact your nearest immigration office, and they will tell you if you can change visa this way.

SHORT-TERM COURSES:

SILAC: June 8 and June 22 programs: last minute bookings - Student Village/Hotel accommodation only.

Acceleration: Acceleration C from July 3rd - Student Village/Hotel accommodation only.

AIJP/AJSP: Summer course starts July 4th - Student Village/Hotel accommodation only.

Discovery E: Spaces VIRTUALLY all taken. Contact Admissions immediately for information (Start date: July 5th).
