Introduction:

The Online Center for Japanese Studies is a new internet based delivery mechanism for Japanese language education. The OCJS uses the internet, integrated databases and telematics to teach Japanese in Japanese via by synchronous and asynchronous teaching technologies. A position is available for a qualified and experienced instructor to assist with the design of teaching materials, pre-record video and audio files, coordinate curriculum development and develop the Computer Aided Language Learning seminars. A Coordinator will also have a teaching role, although this will be restricted to CALL seminars, private lessons and teacher training.

Computer Skills:

The Coordinator will have a full time technical support team, excellent equipment and a high degree of autonomy. You do not need to have extensive computer experience or know how to edit video files etc - but you do need to feel comfortable using the internet, email, intranets and bulletin boards.

Education Background:

The Coordinator should have as a minimum a Bachelor's degree in Japanese Language Education or if your undergraduate degree was not in Japanese Language Education then you should have a Masters degree in Applied Linguistics. A minimum of 4 years of teaching experience is recommended including at least one year outside Japan. All teaching is to be done in Japanese, however it would be useful if you have daily conversational fluency in at least one of the following foreign languages - Chinese, English, German, Korean or Spanish. You need to be a native speaker of the Japanese language.

Travel:

The Coordinator may need to travel both inside Japan and abroad to conferences concerning the field of distance learning, telematics and trade shows. Such travel would usually be for 5-10 days.

Salary and Conditions:

Salary will be determined according to background and experience. The estimated salary range is 230,000 to 320,000 per month for the first year. A bonus would be payable after completion of 12 months. Office space will be provided and the daily schedule includes flexitime. In addition to paid leave, the coordinator may apply for up to 2 weeks of study leave.
