Issue 7 - Friday, 14th July 2000

Todays theme: money. People are just so materialistic.

Entries for the homepage are steadily trickling in - remember that to enter you actually have to be a student here during the summer (between June 1st and August 18th). Articles for the Guidebook are also slowly growing in number - they will be online shortly with an entirely new, original (honest) and easy-to-use layout. Just wait until Chris (one of the interns in the Multimedia Studio) gets his act together and finishes it (sorry Chris - that was a little harsh).

Special feature this week is about Pachinko, one of those truly thrilling ways to pass an entire evening while rapidly going deaf and getting poor at the same time. The lottery might be the poor man's tax, but pachinko is eclectic. This will be the first of an occasional series of articles about Japanese culture, randomly amusing things and weird stuff. Suggestions, anything you want to know about, just let me know. But keep it clean please. This is a family newsletter.

Regular feature: a student profile this week. Joyce Ng, from Singapore - quite possible our first interior designer on campus. Then, a little explanation of what is happening in Aoi Hall at the moment: major developments putting Yamasa at the forefront of noise-complaints from neighbours in the late afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who sent me a birthday card! Makes up for the fact that not even my mother sent me one....

Keep in touch (not all of you - there's too many).

Yours sincerely,

Euan McKay.
