Issue 11 - Friday, 8th September 2000

Another week, another change. We are evolving slowly as I learn how to write a newsletter. Thank you to everyone who has sent in suggestions and comments. Please keep them coming. From this issue we are changing format slightly - articles will be put on the homepage in the newsletter archive, and a brief summary will be sent out. If you are interested, please go to the homepage to read the articles. This is so that we don't burden you with a large email every week.

This week, we go cultural. Reports from the Discovery E program that has just finished. A brief look at Otogawa Yana (catching fish with your bare hands on the Oto River). Well, it was called the Discovery tour. Then, a little more of an in-depth look at the Shibori or tie-dye techniques of Arimatsu, another of the tour destinations. Finally, the usual interview, this time with a SILAC student, Eva from Germany, who has just finished 12 weeks of studies here over the summer.

CONTENTS

1. Course Information
2. Student profile: Eva Rudert
3. Things Japanese: Otogawa yana
4. Japan Guide: Arimatsu Shibori

That's all folks. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see an in-depth article about (something along the lines of the Shibori article this week roughly). Any topic related to Japan, however tenuously, is fine.

See you next time.

Euan McKay.
