Issue 16 - Friday, 16th November 2000

What exciting things have happened this week? Well, I worked out that the ants from the were just confused by a slight warm spell, thinking it was spring. That means that I now have the pleasant thought that come April, they'll be back in force and swarming out of my bedroom floor. Fortunately, I will be moving before then, as my house will be making way for a new highway. Progress reaches even Kozakai Town (in the form of a bulldozer through my bedroom).

The new student network is online and restructured (thanks to not sleeping all week - maybe I'll be paid overtime? No, of course not.) so now we can start to translate into more languages and add more material. Your contributions are eagerly awaited in the following areas:

  • Photos: of anything Japan or Yamasa-related. Prizes offered for exceptional shots.
  • Homepages: Got something to say? Want to express a little creative flair? Send us a homepage and we'll put it in the Student Network. Again, prizes for exceptional contributions.
  • Articles: First contribution published today! The newsletter is always looking for articles, and they are being reorganised soon so that you can search for individual pieces. Budding Nobel laureates? Even a Pulitzer? Please read this page: http://www.yamasa.org/acjs/network/english/contribute.html for requirements for articles and check with newsletter@yamasa.org or the editor in person before writing.
  • Reviews: Yamasa.tv is on the way. Included in this newsletter is a sample video which we'd like you to check and let us know how it works, what problems you have, etc. so that we can improve the service. This is part of the development of the OCJS (Online Center for Japanese Studies) and to provide new information for people interested in the ACJS (Aichi Center for Japanese Studies). See this page for the videos and feedback form: http://www.yamasa.org/acjs/video/test.html

This week's interview: Ban-sensei could escape twice after all. She did it by moving to China, which you might consider extreme, but she'll be back... Ban-sensei is taking a couple of months to manage the Yamasa Japanese Programs run in Beijing for Toyota and Fuji. On the homepage interviews now come with photos of victims. For those of you who haven't been to Yamasa yet, find out what your teachers will look like here! Coming soon: Yoshio Hattori, President of the Hattori Foundation. Is no one safe? Well, while they're in China they are...
