1. The first bits.
(a) New Admissions Coordinator.
Now we can reveal all. The new Admissions Coordinator is another Brit, Jon Walden, and he is taking over emails from today. I will still be here for the next two weeks to oversee the smooth transition. Of course, the Director of the International Office Declan Murphy will still be here to ensure continuity when I leave, and I will certainly be back in Okazaki every now and then.
Jon has studied at Yamasa on a student visa for the past year, so he knows the Japanese visa system, the courses and the accommodation, as well as the area and all about living here. Please feel free to bother him with lots of questions. That is what he's here for, after all.
As for me, now I don't even have a desk anymore despite the fact that I'll still be around for 2 weeks. The ingratitude of it all. Thank you all for your contributions, for all the emails and I wish you all the best with your Japanese studies. It's been a very short 18 months working here, there have been a lot of very good experiences, and I have made a lot of very good friends here with whom I will definitely keep in touch. See you next time in Okazaki.

2. Course Information
Accommodation:
From April: Villa 1, residence K, U full until end April, waitlisting until end June. Space in Villa 2, 3&4 and Student Village. There are usually some last-minute changes, so check with admissions@yamasa.org for information or see the availability file for details.
Long-term Courses:
Student Visa: Applications for April 2001: The Immigration Office awarded the Student Visas on March 1st. As usual, all applications were approved. Applications for October 2001: twelve already received. The deadline for applications is June 20th, quota is 55 places - 43 to go. If you want to apply for this start-date please complete an application form online (see program catalog for details) or contact Admissions for information.
Short-term courses:

Discovery tour starting on April 6th - itinerary here. Contact Admissions for details. There are still a few places available - join a very small private tour of all the best parts of Japan. Includes trips to Kyoto, Asahi Beer Factory, Tenryuu Gorge, Magome and Tsumago, Komagane, Fuji 5 lakes, Shiraito no Taki, Kiso Gawa rapids, Arimatsu (see Japan Guide), Handa (see Japan Guide), Hikone, Inuyama Castle, Tokugawa Art Museum and many other locations. |
