Just above him in the middle distance, you can see the previous ski jumper just clearing the safety area and adopting the V technique. The jumper before him has already landed and is at the base of the hill.

Ski jump facilities are expensive, so due to to cost considerations there is not much time to prepare for a jump once seated on the ramp. You can see the next group of jumpers preparing to move the seat, and other athletes (#28) who have just arrived from the chair lift.
