A sculpture based on an ukiyoe print by the artist Toshusai Sharaku (1770-1825). Toshusai's print Actor, was one of the most famous prints and remains a favorite amongst Japanese. This actor was drawn during the same series.

This particular sculpture was made as part of the International Snow Sculpture Competition at the Odori Koen site during the 2005 festival. Made by the only Japanese team participating in the competitionne high marks for the detail of the actor's hair, and for the technical skill required to carve the nose in warm temperatures.
