Completed in 2007, Villa 5 consists of 8 studio apartments designed entirely from student feedback. These apartments are located next to the Villa III & IV and Villa I studio apartments. They are equally close to shops and restaurants, the campus (8 minutes walk, 5 minutes by bicycle) and public transport. Anyone can rent these apartments, though the high occupancy rate and limited number of apartments means that vacancies are relatively few.
Location: As well as being close to the campus, the Villa 5 is also close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets and bus-stops. If you are looking for convenience for getting out of town to see the sights of central Japan, these apartments are a 10 minute bicycle ride from JR Okazaki Railway Station which is on the JR Tokaido Line (the main trunk route linking Osaka - Kyoto - Nagoya - Shizuoka - Tokyo) and gives you excellent access to Nagoya, Kanayama, Mikawa-Anjo, the marina/onsen resort of Gamagori on Mikawa Bay and Toyohashi.
Description: The apartments are western-style and there are two designs. Type A (6 apartments) includes a loft and has a total area of 26.3 m2 (floor space 22.8 m2, loft space 3.5 m2), Type B (2 apartments) has a total area of 30 m2. Each has high ceilings, air-conditioning/heating, a large wardrobe, and an equipped kitchen with a kitchen sink, refrigerator, electric cooker (2 induction cookers), microwave, toaster, electric rice cooker and some cooking utensils (frying pan, saucepan, kettle). There is no gas cooking available although some long-term students buy their own gas rings with disposable gas cartridges. Yamasa provides a washing machine, study desk & chair, study lamp, dining table and chair, sofa and bookshelves. The Type A apartments have a foam mattress in the loft (accessed by stairs, not a ladder), and the Type B apartments have a semi-double bed & mattress (width 120cm, length 210cm. Sheets etc are not provided). There is covered bicycle parking next to Villa III & IV - less than 20 meters away. The Villa 5 apartments have extensive food preparation areas, high ceilings and interior door clearances, improved energy efficiency, and better privacy & security. The rooms are deliberately designed to make living in Japan more comfortable for students taller than 175 cm (5 feet 7 inches) - the height of the desk, sink, food preparation areas, shower head etc have all been raised to prevent back pain and discomfort. All the apartments are well lit and designed for comfortable single occupancy, with double-glazed windows and extensive sound insulation to reduce disruptions to your living and study environment from any external noise. They are the only apartments designed for single occupancy that include a sofa.
Washing machine: In appartment, provided by Yamasa.
Internet: Each room has 1 wireless router with 4 LAN 100Mbps sockets to connect you directly into the Internet for free unlimited access.
Telephone: There is no telephone provided inside the apartment. Most students prefer to use the cheaper option of handheld cellular phones.
Futons: Futons are not provided but can by rented or purchased from Yamasa. See "Details of Furnishings" on this page.
